Facts About Well Intervention

When people speak of well intervention, what they are speaking of is an action performed by the company who owns the well to help maintain or correct the overall health of the rig and well itself. This action can be performed directly by the company or by a third-party who is contracted by the company to perform the work. While all wells can undergo maintenance, it is deepwater well intervention that is considered to be the most dangerous and the most difficult to perform.

The work can be performed during virtually any stage of the lifecycle of the actual well. These actions are mainly done to extend the overall life of the well itself and to make sure it continues to perform at its peak efficiency. In fact, with this in mind, there are actually various forms of different types of intervention, each with a specific purpose and intended goal of keeping the well in tip-top shape. If the well is of a particularly young age, the owners of the well may seek to ensure its health by improving flow through the use of added equipment or by restructuring the existing well in some way.

In cases such as these, the intervention may be necessary to fully ensure the safety of the changes which are implemented. Probably the best-known kind of well intervention that a company such as PRT Offshore performs is that of "pumping." When this is performed, it basically consists of chemicals being pumped into the well to either encourage an uptick in production of resources or to clean out the well from the byproducts of extraction. This cleaning ensures that the well will be able to function as intended. There are times when the entire well needs to be replaced because so much work needs to be done with it. This is a very critical aspect of what is known as deepwater well intervention because there are so many safety factors involved in the process of it.

As you can see, there are very important reasons why deepwater well intervention is so important in conjunction with the exploration and care that goes into keeping the well functioning as intended. For these and many other reasons which are not listed here, it would behoove the worker to and the owner of the well to remember just how important following all of the regulations are.
