iTunes started out as an impressive desktop application for your music. Unfortunately, with more and more features being added to it, the application became bloated and started running awfully slow. The things get even grossed while switching from one section of the iTunes library to another, as it pauses indefinitely in between.

Fortunately, there are some tips and tricks that can bring instant relief from jug-headed speed of the iTunes library. And this application cannot be solely blamed, other factors like configuration of your desktop, the number of applications running at the same time.

1. Faster Installation of the application
Yes, faster installation is possible, while going through the Setup Assistant you can disable few features to make faster installation happen. In case there are a great number of songs in your folders, iTunes will definitely add all those, so to make installation speedy make sure to uncheck “My Folder” option. Another way of enhancing speed is “not to let iTunes organize your media”. This will not only enhance installation speed, but also give you more control on and about music collection.

2. Services not in use should be disabled
There are services enabled by default when you run iTunes on your computer. Let’s face the fact, you are supposed to use application on the desktop, thus best way to enhance performance of iTunes is by disabling the unwanted services. This can be done by Edit>Preferences.

3. Smart Playlist Deletion
Disabling Smart Playlists can certainly make your application load faster and run better. Certainly, this is an amazing feature and you will just LOOOVE it. But if your iTunes library cannot load instantly, deleting smart playlists can be relieving. You can create playlists even after deleting smart playlist, and the best thing is, it won’t affect adversely the performance quotient.

4. Disabling Genius function
The Genius Function is one of the reasons why your applications loads and runs slowly as running this application demands resources. If you have enabled this function, disable it; if you haven’t enabled it then don’t. The Genius Function can be disabled by following the path Store>Turn off Genius.

5. Switchingoff the Cover Flow
Yeah, cover flow is like an eye candy but you have to pay the cost in the form of slow speed and poor performance. When used in desktop of older configuration, the impact of cover flow becomes even grosser. Well, if you wanna bring an immediate pump of performance, it is recommended to use standard browser view over cover flow.

6. Remove duplicates
A large music library may also slow down your iTunes. You can resize it by removing all the duplicates. Select File>Display Duplicate in iTunes and all the duplicates will be shown in the file tray. Then select the unwanted and remove to the trash.

**Note: If there are so many duplicates in iTunes, you can use the Wondershare TidyMyMusic to automatically find all and remove to the trash.
